DKMS US receives $25,000 grant from Love Your Melon for Registration Partnership

March 20

Love Your Melon initiated the partnership with DKMS in 2019 by donating $25,000 to help cover the fees associated with registering new donors and support DKMS’s goal of increasing the registration of young donors.

“Love Your Melon is excited to help target and educate the college demographic on the need for young donors to join the registry,” said Lauren Pelant, Fund Director for Love Your Melon. “DKMS will tap into our dedicated Campus Crew program to host swab drives at universities across the country and bring hope to thousands of patients currently waiting for their match.”

Love Your Melon is a for profit company with a dedicated mission to change the lives of children battling cancer. Fifty percent (50%) of net profit generated from the sale of all Love Your Melon products is given to support charitable programming through the Love Your Melon Fund and our nonprofit partners. Since 2012, they have given 160,524 beanies to young patients across the country and donated $6,184,565 to support the fight against pediatric cancer, create therapeutic experiences, and fund programming initiatives for children and families battling cancer.

“Love Your Melon’s dedication and passion for changing the lives of patients made the decision to partner with them a no-brainer,” says Agata Maraszek-Dudek, VP of Donor Recruitment for DKMS. “We are excited to work with them in 2019 to not only better the lives of patients currently in treatment, but ensure that those patients have the promise of a happy and healthy future before them.”

Unrelated donors are needed for transplants in 70% of the cases of patients suffering from blood cancers or blood disorders. A simple cheek swab is all it takes to register as a potential donor.
