Volunteer Spotlight; Sharon-Frances Moore

April 08

Sharon-Frances is a superstar DKMS ambassador who has worked tirelessly to introduce our mission to her extensive network of friends and colleagues. In 2014, when we launched The Blood Ball, a new Halloween-inspired benefit, Sharon-Frances gave generously of her time, talent and resources to help raise thousands of dollars at the event. Since then, she has been a strong advocate for our work to increase the diversity of the bone marrow registry by raising awareness about the need for more minority representation.

What motivates you to volunteer?
“ ‘Do unto others as you would have them do unto you’ was a saying my mother lived by and subsequently one of the guiding rules in our home. Both of my parents volunteered their time supporting various organizations and churches, and I followed in their footsteps. I truly believe it is a moral obligation to help out when you are able to do so.”

Do you have any favorite quote or saying?
“ ‘How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in your life you will have been all of these’ -- George Washington Carver.”

How are you connected to DKMS’s mission?
“Sadly, I have lost many of my immediate family to cancer -- DKMS supports patients and their families with its program and compassionate staff and donors.”

How do you utilize your talents for your volunteer work?
“I have large contact list and I use it to connect resources -- people or goods -- with good organizations like DKMS.

Organizations that depend on volunteers are grateful for any amount of help, time or money you give them because at the end of the day, every dollar raised and minute spent helping, when added together equals a wealth of impact.”

Thank you, Sharon-Frances, for everything you have done to support our lifesaving mission!
