Madison Boy Scout, Will Omohundro, has teamed up with Delete Blood Cancer for his Eagle Scout Service Project, in honor of Patrick Wall, to help others in need of a life-saving bone marrow transplant find their real-life hero. Scoutmaster Wall was diagnosed on December 29, 2014 with a rare mast cell acute myeloid leukemia after battling for almost 3 years with a low blood platelet count with no apparent cause. To treat this disease, he needed a life-saving bone marrow transplant and was lucky enough to find his donor match within his family, which only happens 30% of the time. He successfully had his bone marrow transplant on April 1, 2015 and hopes to return to hiking with the scouts.
So many others needing bone marrow transplants can not find their donor match because there are just not enough people on the registry for them to continue reaching their dreams. All it takes is a simple cheek swab, and you can make a difference in someone’s life. You must be 18-55 yrs. old and in good general health to register. Only 4 out of 10 patients searching for a life-saving bone marrow transplant donor will ever find the match they need. You can help change those odds.
