Every year, more than 14,000 patients with blood cancers (like leukemia) need a bone marrow transplant from an unrelated donor to help save their life. Sadly, 6 out of 10 patients never receive the lifesaving transplant they need. This could be changed if more people registered as potential bone marrow donors.
On Wednesday, May 11, the students at Albert Einstein College of Medicine are trying to change these odds by registering more new donors. Registration is simple and includes an eligibility screening, filling out a form, and swabbing each cheek for 30 seconds to collect cells for use in matching with a patient.
